SPENCE: "Would you agree that one of the strenghts of our system is that we have only two meaningful parties? That we don't have to haggle and compromise to build a coalition government, like, say Italy or Israel?
TRISH; 'Where are you going with this?
SPENCE: 'For the system to work there has to be change. If one party can totally dominate, the system fails. I tried to argue that with Karl Rove. I told him that his efforts to create a permanent Republican majority were un-american."
TRISH: "What did he say?"
SPENCE; "He laughed."
